Here’s a great 10-minute talk by Panayiotis Thomakos, developer at Strava. Automation and managed productivity become more and more important the larger your company becomes. Loved this quote by Sandi Metz, too:
Duplication is far cheaper than the wrong abstraction.
This is so true. We love abstracting things as developers because it’s the nerdy thing to do. We take Edsger Wybe Dijkstra literally with his saying, “Two or more, use a for.” In practical terms though, you’re really better off having two than the wrong for.
Also great to see that Strava is a Rails and macOS shop. My kind of tech stack. Strava is one of my all-time favorite websites on the Internet. Right up there with GitHub.
